One 97 Communications (OCL), which operates the fintech company Paytm, has partnered with global travel aggregators Skyscanner, Google Flights, and Wego to expand its presence in the online travel market. In a statement on Monday, the company reported a 19% year-on-year increase in total flight bookings on Paytm for the March quarter, with international flight bookings rising by 15% year-on-year in April.
A Paytm spokesperson highlighted that these new partnerships with global travel aggregators and major airlines, along with the incorporation of artificial intelligence, demonstrate the company’s commitment to offering seamless, convenient, and competitive travel solutions. They aim to continuously innovate and provide exceptional value and a superior travel experience for their customers.
These recent partnerships come on the heels of Paytm’s collaboration with Samsung, allowing users to book flights, buses, movies, and events through Samsung Wallet. This is part of Paytm’s strategy to diversify its revenue streams following the Reserve Bank of India's restrictions on Paytm Payments Bank Ltd, which barred the bank from accepting new deposits and offering banking services after March 15.
In 2023, Paytm integrated its new distribution capability (NDC) with the global travel technology firm Amadeus. This initially included Singapore Airlines and Qatar Airways on the NDCx platform and has recently expanded to include Eva Airways. The integration offers AI-powered features, enhancing the booking experience with personalized travel options and packages directly from airlines.
Additionally, Paytm Travel has added three international airlines—Cambodia Angkor Air, SalamAir, and FlyDubai—and expanded its domestic services by partnering with new bus operators like Mettur, aiming to reach customers in smaller cities and towns. The company has also introduced a free cancellation service across its travel categories, including trains, buses, and flights.
